San Francisco Township (SFT) is your local governing board. We function in partnership with Carver County. Below is some helpful information about living in our township and how the partnership with Carver County works.
ZONING: SFT has assigned Carver County as our Zoning authority. We follow all County Regulations as to lot size, Residence/building eligibilities, Outbuilding Sizes etc. All permits are acquired through the County and then presented to the township at one of our meetings for the Board to sign off on.
TOWN BOARD: The township is governed by a 3 person town board. There is also a Town Clerk and Town Treasurer. The board members and the Treasurer are elected positions with 4 year terms with off setting 2 year election cycles. The Board has a monthly meeting at the Town Hall on Homestead Road on the Second Monday of the month. (See meeting Schedule)
UTILITIES: The area is served by several Electric Companies. Your service will be determined by your location. The main providers are XCel and MN Vslley Electric.
All township residents have private wells and septics. These are also permitted through Carver County.
Carver County has a recycle center located in Chaska. They accept appliances, mattresses and toxins for a fee
Excepting the Carver Highland area that has Natural Gas lines, all homes use private propane for fuel. Tanks can be rented or owned. There are several local providers
Most of the township is now serviced by MetroNet fiberoptic internet. If your property is not you have options for Dishes or satellite internet.
ROADS: All gravel roads are managed and maintained by the township. Any access or driveway added off of a gravel road will need a permit acquired through the township. (See online forms for application). Maintenance is done by contract. Dustcoating subsidies have been provided most years to residents wishing for application. For more information on your gravel road please attend the board meetings.
All tar roads are County Roads and managed and maintained by then County.
VOTING: Presidential and General elections held in even numbered years are held at the town hall. You can volunteer to be a judge and will be trained by Carver County Election department. Elections in odd numbers years, which are usually school related, are held in the towns of Carver or Belle Plaine and not at the town hall.
